"I thought it came in with the National Curriculum", said one parent to me as she described the "funny way" her child did her subtractions. I explained to her that the method her child was using to subtract, called Decomposition, was far from new; my father had been taught that way in the 1920s and so had my husband in the late 1950s, whereas I had been taught the way she had learnt, known as Equal Addition.
Check out the two methods in the take the test and identify which way you were taught. It's something I would like to know and please let me know how you, your family and friends subtract too!
